Healthy Dog Foods
With the vast number of dog foods available in the market it becomes very difficult for pet owners to pick the one that will suit their dog the best. To begin with you need to discuss your dog’s necessary nutritional needs with your vet. Every breed and every dog has different dietary needs. The next step is to go through the ingredients mentioned on the packet of your chosen brand of dog food. The first things that you should look for are the artificial ingredients like fillers, color, flavor and other additives. If the pet food contains any of these it is not as healthy as the claims state. Of course the best way to make sure is to make your own dog food in your own home. It’s actually quite easy. There are many recipes available over the internet. You could also invest in a book by Andi Brown called ‘The Whole Pet Diet’. But sometimes due to time constraints this is just not possible in which case you could also buy one of her homemade delicacies in a can. The feces of a dog that eats healthy well balanced food will be devoid of any mucus and blood. There is no reason why you should be touching it but it’s a good idea to give it a glance when you take your dog out for a walk. A dog’s anatomy is more delicate than human anatomy so any sudden food changes will adversely affect your dog. So even if you do want to change your dog’s food introduce the new diet gradually. Introduce the new food in the ratio of 1:8 that is 8 parts of the old food and one part of the new food, and continue increasing the quantity of new food every day. Even if the transition period is of four days it will prevent a lot of digestive problems. Usually the ready made food is more expensive than home made food, so even if you cannot afford to get the best in the market don’t fret your dog will be happy and healthy with a home made diet as well. Just remember the nutritional tips mentioned above and don’t forget to mix lots of love with the food.
