As a pet owner you are responsible for your dog’s health and well being. The saddest thing in the world is to see your pet succumb to an illness. So to prevent this eventuality it is imperative that you dedicate time and effort to your dogs health. The basic protection that your dog needs is the annual shot. Two vaccinations are annually administered and are vital to your dogs health. One is the anti rabies vaccination. Rabies is a deadly disease in animals and humans alike .It is contrapted when bitten by an infected animal. The vaccination is 100% effective in preventing fatalities incase of bites. So it’s very important to give your dog the annual rabies vaccination. The next vaccination is the distemper vaccination. This is a combined vaccination which acts as a line of defense against many diseases including gastro. It is also important to keep your dog free of endoparasites by deworming them frequently. Most diseases in dogs are caused due to bacterial, viral, fungal infections. You will also have to keep your dog free of ecto parasites like ticks and fleas. If left unchecked these diseases can even cause organ damage in your pet and prove to be fatal. Veterinary science has progressed in leaps and bounds and vaccinations and treatments are available for most canine diseases. Vaccinations are a good way to boost your pet’s immune system. Most of the vaccines available on the shelf these days are killed vaccines which are highly stable and offer resistance against diseases for a year. As far as puppies are concerned, I heir mother s vaccinated they get all the protection they need from their mother’s milk for a while but once they are a few weeks old they will have to be vaccinated. After the initial vaccination further booster shots will be recommended by your vet at regular intervals. Puppies are more susceptible to diseases than adult dogs. The booster shots make sure that your puppy stays safe. Many vets and researchers are opposed to the idea of vaccinating a young dog so many times. Even for older dogs not exposed to diseases, many vets will recommend vaccinations once every three years. Whatever the duration between the vaccinations they are extremely important to maintain your dog’s health.
